And when there is someone who can be trusted with this, or when there are little things left that cannot significantly harm your future, then carelessness is quite in order and should be so that both the brain and soul relax from constantly resolving issues.

A carefree person is one who doesn't care about anything, doesn't worry about problems, doesn't do anything to take care of the future, lives for the moment. On the one hand, the state of carelessness is very pleasant: nothing overshadows your rest and peace. You can indulge in this feeling while on vacation, for example, relaxing on the beach...

But in everyday life, carelessness can cause serious problems.

The meaning of the word heartlessness has certain religious roots of its origin, since it represents such a state of a person as the presence of demons in his heart. Selfless actions, gentleness in treatment, generosity in forgiveness - this is just a small list of what is not available to a heartless person. Rather, he is always looking for profit, he can go over his head, causing pain to others and not stopping at moral ethical laws. By the way, legal and spiritual laws will restrain such a person only for a certain time, until the trait of insensitivity becomes dominant in the individual.

The lack of participation in the suffering of others is not due to a person’s desire or his personal choice - it is all the consequences of frustration due to trauma or the lack of development of certain characterological traits. Heartlessness grows from a lack of morality and orientation towards spiritual and moral norms and priorities, trampling on the voice of conscience, and subsequently a complete disregard for its signals. In many ways, the emergence of just such a personal trait is due to modern society and the changing nature of interaction between people in a global sense. So, the tougher the world around us, the more a person understands the relevance of pursuing only his own interests.

Practice shows that if you have helped others, even to the detriment of yourself, it is not a fact that you will receive support when you need it. We are increasingly accustomed to the fact that cordiality can be manipulated by the poor and sick, who are actually actors or speculators. Friends and acquaintances exaggerate their misfortunes to gain support when they are doing better than you. This is how protection from emotional reactions to the events of the surrounding world is gradually born, and the pursuit of only one’s goals becomes a priority.

    Since the basis of a negative attitude towards your own life and the world around you is the denial of yourself as part of them, it is important to learn to accept yourself and feel useful both for yourself and for others.

    Often actions are not only a reflection of one’s own essence or an attempt to indicate to others one’s position - “I am like this, and it cannot be otherwise.” Over time, a person acts in a certain way simply because he is used to behaving that way. Today there is a lot of literature that helps instill good habits without much effort. You just have to want and devote a little time to this activity. Along with good habits, including the ability to properly control your life and actions, the habits of doing bad things will go away on their own.

    Only after a person learns to treat himself correctly, love himself and respect himself, will love and respect for others come. A feeling of compassion and mercy will appear, and with them understanding and acceptance of the suffering of others.

Accordingly, in order for a person to atrophy such a deeply embedded skill, feeling, personality traits, serious psychotraumatic events had to occur. Usually this applies specifically to events where the person himself was treated inhumanely and none of those around him came to help. Then a perception of the world is formed where such behavior is the norm, and the opposite can lead to mental pain.

If you try to decompose this quality into its components, it turns out that inhumanity is born not only after the traumas suffered, but also as a result of a certain upbringing or created social conditions.

Thus, the primary source of inhumanity is egoism, which is necessarily necessary in certain doses for the survival of the individual, if not on the psychological-spiritual, then at least on the biological level.

So, if we start from the definition that a carefree person lives in the present day, does not worry about the future and strives to obtain maximum pleasure, then we get a rather joyful picture of existence. There is a certain Taoist approach to this, when a person does not have to worry about those problems that are not relevant at the moment, does not run around looking for gifts several months in advance and does not try to come up with plans of salvation for all occasions. This state is optimal for relaxation; it should, one way or another, be present in the life of every person for periods every day, but not turn into totality.

Negative manifestations of carelessness are usually not long in coming, since our world is structured on the principle of obtaining results based on the efforts made. A colorful example is the fable about the dragonfly and the ant - in the same way, carelessness can lead to negative consequences of accumulated debts, broken promises, even health problems.

Living in the pleasure of the present moment is the prerogative of children, as well as a sign of infantilism, which is why accusations of carelessness, but with a hint of envy, are so common. When a person grows up, reality begins to make new demands on him, where there is a need to do not always pleasant things in order to ensure at least his minimal survival.

The more serious matters are allowed to take their course due to carelessness, the more serious losses await a person in the future; the less effort is made now, the more seriously one will have to think about how to get out of the current situation later. Examples of children who were left with an inheritance when they still had no idea about the future, planning skills and anxiety about adult problems end up with fabulous sums being spent on meeting their needs and living a life resembling paradise. Unfortunately, such a cloudless period ends very quickly, since appetites always grow along with opportunities, and the resources to start receiving at least passive income have already been exhausted.

It is important to note that the manifestation of carelessness does not mean fearlessness, inadequacy in assessing the situation due to insufficient information or its concealment, as well as complete peace of mind

With carelessness, you can experience fear and these are not opposite states; you can be careless about the general safety of the world as such, but for quite objective reasons you can be afraid for your own life when the door is broken into. The lack of experience in a misinformed person cannot be considered carelessness, since in other conditions he will react differently. To make it easier to navigate, this is absolute inner calm, reminiscent of a child’s state, where there is confidence that even if something bad happens, your parents will immediately solve the situation, and you will continue to play your unicorn. Only for adults, parents become their own personal supports or faith in a higher power.

How to strengthen your character, become tougher, stop being meek and soft-bodied

Every person dreams of being happy and successful, while being afraid to face human cruelty and betrayal. Many parents tell their children that they need to be kind and sympathetic, that a friend is a friend in need, and that loved ones must be treasured.

Undoubtedly, such attitudes have a right to exist, but you should not always rely solely on goodwill. Sometimes a good attitude and openness can be seen as weakness. In a world where people are driven by determination and a thirst for success, sometimes you have to be tough, and at times even cruel.

But how can you become an unshakable monolith if by nature you are a soft and perhaps even weak-willed person?

Tough people - what are they like?

If the phrase “tough person” comes up in a conversation, then many begin to draw an image of an intolerant person who looks with disdain at the weakness of others. In fact, toughness can be called a reflection of a person’s strongest character traits, including perseverance, will and self-control.

Tough people tend to be leaders by nature. Moreover, it is worth considering that this character trait is not innate, it is formed under the influence of various external factors, often difficult life situations.

Rigidity can essentially be called the ability to remain steadfast even when external or internal stimuli for a long time do not provide the opportunity to relax.

Internal irritants include personal weaknesses and desires, and external irritants include insults, neglect and resentment caused by other people.

A tough person is characterized by the following behavior:

None of the predators will attack their own kind except in a situation of defending their territory or another threat; no one will kill for pleasure or leave a crippled animal for fun. This has absolutely nothing to do with human nature, where sadism is possible as an option for entertainment, and debauchery and even the slave system become the norm of the social structure, albeit for a short period of time.

People who have lost their understanding of the universal human value of life, nature, and the manifestation of spirituality can no longer objectively evaluate either their actions or the suffering of others. This is largely facilitated by modern art, which presents the capabilities of the human body and psyche as more stable structures than they actually are. An entire generation is growing up believing that after hitting their head on the asphalt, a person can easily get up and run about his business, even if blood is running down his face. The same applies to mental reality, where separations and deaths of loved ones, bankruptcy and experiences of war are perceived solely as temporary difficulties, as well as opportunities for the development of a unique startup.

Insensitivity and ruthlessness that arise in souls begin to lead to the fact that inhumanity becomes the norm not for the next spiritually crippled person, but for all of humanity as a whole. This is translated into legislative acts and educational words of parents.

In the future, inhumanity can only develop in manifestations of cruelty, and in such a form that it will be impossible to overcome.

Those who are forced to kill to stay alive are different from those who kill without experiencing anything inside. As a result, society may lose the main meaning of human existence - survival as a species, when these foundations begin to be trampled on. Inhumanity pushes experiments on people, it leads to the destruction of entire peoples and nations

If we do not take into account even the physical threat of self-destruction and complete disappearance of people, thanks to the spread of inhumanity, then the destruction of stories and souls occurs. Clearing out important events and separating children from their mothers are rather cynical forms of inhumanity, leading to the fact that a person is defenseless, as well as to the fact that several subsequent generations are deprived of protection at once

All that seems possible to do in this situation is exclusively prevention, since, as was stipulated in the concept itself, it is impossible to control the degree of manifestation of inhumanity by external prohibitions. Indifference and indifference, spiritual coldness are categories that cannot be measured, much less constitutionally prohibited. A restructuring of the educational and educational system is necessary, where the main emphasis will finally be shifted from pushing a lot of knowledge into the head to direct interaction between students. The more parents spend time with their children and show that others are hurt by their words or actions, reminding how unpleasant it was for the child himself when they did this to him, the skill of empathic communication will develop more.

There is also an evolutionary theory that says that at a certain point of indifference and self-destruction, reverse mental changes will begin, aimed at preserving the species, and then more and more hypersensitive people will be born. This will be considered a new era of support and humane treatment, which will come through a crisis, the need for which many scientists say, since humanity is currently in a social impasse.

Inhumanity as a personality quality is the inability to treat other people compassionately, caringly and responsibly; do not experience mental discomfort by causing or observing the suffering of other people.

One person could not find a job for a long time. And finally, I found her with a rich woman. There was a lot of work, the hostess paid very little money, and did not give her food at all. Inhumanity is the denial of the spiritual nature of man. This is a misunderstanding or ignorance of the laws of the universe, in particular the law of justice. Otherwise, it would be complete madness to treat a spark of God like you without any compassion, to cause suffering to a kindred soul. Isn't it absurd to watch two droplets of the same ocean squabble? Isn’t it the height of stupidity to do evil, knowing that everything will return, like a boomerang, to your destiny. Life is quite simple: what you do is what you get. This means that a person becomes inhuman when he loses respect for the spiritual essence of another person. Having lost compassion, an individual in human form turns into a non-human.

Selfishness is the father of inhumanity, disrespect is its mother. The roots of selfishness are hidden in the instinct of self-preservation. Trying to pull the “blanket over themselves,” egoists throughout the history of mankind have suppressed respect, compassion and altruism not only in themselves, but also in other people. Corrupting and mocking humanity, they gradually destroyed in the bud everything human in themselves and in those around them.

Inhumanity has no boundaries. In the animal world there are unspoken rules, restrictions on selfishness and aggression. For example, a wolf, no matter how angry he is, will not be able to attack another wolf if he exposes his neck to him - the most vulnerable place. Only an egoist - a non-human - goes beyond the “red flags” of mother nature. There are no restrictions for him. In the animal world there is no torture, sadism, child molestation, debauchery, moral corruption, politicking, or slavery. All this vileness was invented by inhuman non-humans. A terrible example of mass inhumanity is fascism, and individually - Hitler. Writers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky in their book “An Attempt to Escape” write about such non-humans: “These are not people. People can't do that. <…> And these are cybers, ugly looking like people! Saul took a deep breath. “Hardly, Vadim,” he said. “These are people who look an awful lot like cybers.” These degenerates have been eradicating humanity from people for centuries. They, like a clot of hatred, are so dangerous that they can destroy all living things.

S. V. Proleev, in the context of these judgments, writes: “Inhumanity denies a person any inalienable rights; more precisely, not even “rights,” but the very fact that man is a living being. For the inhuman, man is not a being at all, he is an abstract entity that can be manipulated according to his whim and will. That is why inhumanity is so terrible, inexorable and painful. The negation contained in it does not simply apply to a specific individual. In his person the entire human race is destroyed, and therefore every manifestation of inhumanity is an attack on humanity. And this assassination attempt is carried out by the people themselves. Inhumanity is the degeneration of a person into a different essence, a decisive change in his nature. Just as degenerated tissues of the human body become cancer cells, so manifestations of inhumanity are a sign that this is a different, non-human being. I don’t know who he is - an animal or an alien, a sorcerer or a demon, a clay idol or a thinking trunk... He is always a werewolf, an alien and formidable entity that has appeared in the world of people.”

Fast forward to 1919. The left flank of Yudenich's army, from the sea, was supposed to be covered by Estonian troops and the English fleet. But no one is in a hurry to help. By November 1919, Yudenich was completely defeated, and his army approached the Estonian border and was interned. That's what they say in history books. Behind the beautiful foreign word “internment” lies the terrible truth of the inhumanity shown. The Estonian government practically killed the soldiers of the Northwestern Army and many civilian refugees to a terrible death.

Nikolai Starikov in the book “Myths and Truth about the Civil War. Who finished off Russia? describes how inhumanely the Estonians behaved with their allies - the soldiers of Yudenich's army. Military units of White Guards and civilian refugees that have approached the border are not allowed into Estonia. “The defeated, completely demoralized whites were thrown back to the Estonian border,” writes Leon Trotsky in his book “My Life.” “As soon as they crossed it, the Estonian government disarmed them. In London and Paris, no one remembered them. What just yesterday was the Northwestern Army of the Entente was now perishing from cold and hunger.”

For several days, people spent the night right on the ground in the severe frost. “...Russian regiments are not allowed through the wire fence by the Estonians. People freeze in droves that night,” writes Kuprin. Soldiers, adult men can survive, most of those frozen are women and children. Finally, the entry into Estonia begins. In small batches, through barbed wire. All weapons are surrendered, and this is just the beginning. Estonian soldiers undress the soldiers right in the cold, taking off their new English overcoats, taking away valuables and gold crosses and rings. After which people are placed at the Narva-2 station, in the premises of two empty factories. There is barbed wire around them. This is how it should be, because these factories are essentially a concentration camp! Conditions in the Estonian camp are worse than in the Nazi camp: there are no beds, blankets, or warm clothes. No medications, no anything at all! Nearby on the tracks there are thousands of carriages with the property of the dying Russian army. All this is there, but the commander of the Estonian army, General Laidoner, ordered the requisition of the trains with all their contents in favor of Estonia. “Refugees from the Petrograd province, numbering more than 10 thousand, were treated worse than cattle. They were forced to lie for days in the bitter cold on the railway sleepers,” an eyewitness wrote about the nightmare that was happening in Estonia.

Yudenich’s protests are in vain: his army was condemned by the “allies”. The Talab regiment of whites, fighting with the advancing Reds, was the last to reach the Estonian border. The soldiers and officers crossed the ice to the Estonian side and, as agreed, surrendered their weapons. But they were not allowed into Estonia, but, pointing machine guns, they drove them back! The Bolsheviks were already on the other side. Almost the entire regiment died under fire... The fate of the rest of the “lucky” ones who found themselves in Estonia was not much better. A typhus epidemic broke out in the conditions of Estonian concentration camps. Thousands of people died from it. There were 700-900 sick people in the regiments and 100-150 healthy ones; the number of patients not hospitalized reached 10 thousand, the total number of sick people was 14 thousand. There was no help from the Estonians. There is no linen, no medicine. It was even forbidden to let Russians into the bathhouses! Only when typhus spread beyond the White Guard barracks did the authorities begin to take action. Basic hygiene products and... mass graves appeared. “When the order was given to clear the barracks and hospitals of corpses, they were piled onto carts in several tiers, covered with hay, taken out of the city and dumped on the so-called “corpse field,” says “The Fight for Red Petrograd.”

The picture is like in Auschwitz and Dachau! Only the Nazis treated their enemies inhumanely, and the Estonians treated their allies. This is the foundation of Estonian independence! But human rights activists of that time are silent, the angry voices of human rights fighters are not heard. Who cares about Russians when the rapid construction of national states is underway? If such atrocities happened against the Poles or the Estonians themselves, there would be reason to be indignant. The genocide of Russians, especially those who wanted to save their country, is not worthy of attention or concern. We see the same picture, the same double standards, in modern Western politics. This is how Estonia met those who helped free it from the Bolsheviks. Yudenich made the last attempt to save people in January 1920. He turned to the “allies” with a request to transfer their army to the Southern Front, to Denikin.

Only the British have the required number of ships. They agree to help. For money - and they set a price: 800 thousand pounds sterling! General Yudenich, of course, does not have this fabulous sum, and the “allies” will not do anything for free. They specifically set an exorbitant price so that Yudenich’s army, God forbid, does not strengthen the army of Denikin and Wrangel. It would be better if the White Guards went to mass graves... By the end of February 1920, the army was completely disbanded. The total number of Russian typhus survivors was 15 thousand people. They are ragged, exhausted and have no work to do. However, the bullying and extermination of the surviving fighters for Russia did not end there. On March 2, 1920, the Estonian Constituent Assembly passed a law on 2 months of compulsory forest work for all men from 18 to 50 years old who are not engaged in any permanent work. The total number of those mobilized “by chance” was determined to be exactly 15 thousand people! That is, the new law applied only to Russian White Guards. The Estonian government actually sent them to hard labor!

When they say that logging was invented by Stalin’s Gulag chiefs, let’s remember where Estonians sent Russian soldiers and officers long before the cult of personality repressions! The arbitrariness is complete: there are no laws determining wages and production standards, and the military does not know how to cut down trees. They earn 10 Estonian marks a day, and food for one person costs 50. “The mobilized lived from hand to mouth, their clothes quickly wore out,” writes “Struggle for Red Petrograd.” “The accommodation of workers and sanitary conditions were disgusting. The marriages had terrible dirt, a lot of parasitic insects, cold, and dampness. A bathhouse was a rarity, washing clothes and soap were a dream.” Estonia itself is preparing to cut coupons. For her assistance in the betrayal of Russian patriots, she will receive a substantial sum. England and France will put pressure on their “friends” the Bolsheviks, and on February 2, 1920 in Tartu they will readily sign a peace treaty between Soviet Russia and Estonia. The betrayal is rewarded very generously: Western Ingermanland with Ivangorod and the Petsaari (Pechory) region went to Estonia. This is about 1000 sq. km of Russian territory! Having given away the land, the Bolsheviks also paid “compensation” - as much as 15 million rubles in gold! Let's build an independent Estonia!

Fast forward to April 1945. A war that has claimed tens of millions of lives is ending. It would seem that the world has received a permanent vaccination against inhumanity. But inhumanity is a seven-headed serpent, in which, instead of a severed head, a new one grows. Let's listen to Nikolai Starikov: “It was this month that Winston Churchill gave the order to develop a plan for a military operation. Not against Germany and not even against Japan, which is still fighting. And against the USSR, allied with the Anglo-Saxons. In the documents of his personal file, declassified in 1998, there is a plan for the emergency operation “Unthinkable” dated May 22, 1945. The nature and volume of the documents, as well as the scale of their elaboration, allows us to conclude that the Prime Minister of the USSR gave the task to Great Britain no later than April 1945. That is, Russia and England were still fighting together against Nazism, when one of the allies was already preparing to stick a knife in the back of the other. And at the same time, please note that not a single Russophobe from history, not a single “Svanidze” or “Mlechin” ever spoke about the Soviet Union’s plans to strike its Western allies in the spring of 1945. Simply because Stalin did not even have such plans in his thoughts. This is about the question of bloodthirstiness and the desire to take over the whole world and about who has this desire to this day. The possible start of Operation Unthinkable was planned for July 1, 1945.

The general plan was this - a sudden (without a declaration of war) all-crushing blow to the Russian army in Europe. Next is the offensive to where our people had just driven Hitler out. Allied strategic aviation was preparing to wipe out the largest cities of the USSR from the face of the earth.

Especially for fans of Sir Winston Churchill, of whom there are many in our country due to poor knowledge of history, I present the points of the Anglo-Saxon plan. The purpose of the operation was to "compel Russia to submit to the will of the United States and the British Empire." To achieve the goal, the “allies” planned: a) to occupy those areas of internal Russia, without which the country would lose the material capabilities of waging war and further resistance; b) inflict such a decisive defeat on the Russian armed forces that it will deprive the USSR of the opportunity to continue the war. Have you read it? Now explain the difference with the German Barbarossa plan and with the goals that Adolf Hitler set for himself in 1941. The Fuhrer's goal was to eliminate the USSR as a military factor and subordinate the Russians to the will of Germany. The British tried to achieve the same thing four years later than Hitler, developing Operation Unthinkable. According to the Barbarossa plan, the Germans were going to occupy a significant part of the territory of the USSR and defeat the main forces of the Red Army in border battles, which ultimately, in their opinion, was supposed to bring victory to the Reich in the war with the Russians. The plans of their English “colleagues” were exactly the same. So what's the difference? But the difference is that Hitler acted very straightforwardly and used the propaganda of “liberation of Russia from the yoke of the bloody Bolsheviks” very weakly. The Anglo-Saxons, taught by his experience, would bomb our cities and burn our villages under beautiful humanitarian slogans. Just like they did today in Serbia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. In all other respects there is no difference. For it makes no difference to a father or mother whose bomb and under what slogan their child will be killed.

Operation Unthinkable did not take place only because its developers considered the combination of forces in Europe to be not in their favor. We decided to wait for the Allies to have an atomic bomb. What can a modern Russian liberal object to these facts? Great Britain was preparing for war with a totalitarian regime. This alone explains such “cunning” of the British. And so with democratic countries and peoples, these guys are real gentlemen. What can I say - sometimes it is convenient to live in an unreal dream world. Where superpowers fight not for power over the world or for dominance, but for the freedom of other countries. Where the main concern of the leaders of the strongest powers is not the constant and tireless weakening of their opponents, but the results of elections to some parliament. In fact, always and everywhere in politics it is about who will dictate their will to the planet.”

A pity

The mechanism of pity is very simple and is based on the process of “projection”: a person sees the object of pity, identifies with him (puts himself in his place) and feels sorry for himself in his face. A person feels sorry for himself, sick, weak, disadvantaged... but not for another person.

In my understanding, inhumanity is extreme cruelty that should not be characteristic of people. It’s not for nothing that the word “inhumanity” consists of two words - “without”, “man”.

In S. Palia's story, the reader sees a manifestation of inhumane behavior: drunken teenagers tie a defenseless kitten to the rails (sentence 9) and wait for it to be run over by an approaching train (sentence 21). Can you really call them people?

Another terrible example of inhumane behavior - the terrorist seizure of a school in Beslan on September 1, 2004 - is remembered by the whole world. The tragedy that has unfolded is the result of some people completely losing their humanity.

Therefore, I consider inhumanity the most dangerous and intolerable vice, and the duty of each of us is to resist any of its manifestations.

Option 2

Inhumanity is atrocity. This is a condition in which a person loses all his good, human qualities, becoming cruel, aggressive, soulless, capable of terrible crimes.

In the text by S. Palia, I find the attempt of drunken teenagers to kill a defenseless kitten inhumane. They tortured him for a long time (sentence 3), and then tied him to the rails, knowing that the train would soon arrive (sentence 9). But no less inhumane is the indifferent behavior of many witnesses to what is happening (sentences 14, 16).

In our history, unfortunately, there is also a place for this negative phenomenon. Probably its most terrible manifestation is the Great Patriotic War. Khatyn, burned by the Nazis, stood frozen in stone as a sad monument to inhumanity. And how many such destroyed villages were there in the territory occupied by the Germans!

If it were possible to destroy inhumanity in the souls of people, there would never be cruelty and wars in the world.

Option 3

Inhumanity is ruthlessness, mercilessness, hard-heartedness. Inhumanity pushes people to commit monstrous acts.

The behavior of the teenagers who first tortured and then sentenced the kitten to death cannot be called anything other than inhumane. This situation is described in the story of S. Paliya. It is also inhumane that not all people intervened in what was happening. One pretended not to notice the barbarity (sentence 14), the other simply turned away (sentence 16).

The heroes of the story of the same name by G. Troepolsky - Klim, who beat the dog half to death, and Tolik's father, who tied Bim to a tree in the forest - also acted inhumanely with the dog named White Bim Black Ear. Bim's death was a reminder to us of how terrible the consequences of hard-heartedness can be.

We should all, to the best of our ability, try to prevent inhumane acts and remain human in any situation.

Ruthlessness

Ruthlessness and cruelty are not compatible. If you do not feel sorry for yourself, it is impossible to hurt you. And you simply cannot have that excess potential for resentment and insult necessary for the emergence of cruelty.

You can easily come to the same conclusion if you remember Castaneda’s description of his experiences in a state of consciousness called “A Place Without Pity.” Or remembering your experience of meditative states associated with specific detachment.

Hence another seemingly paradoxical conclusion. True empathy, sincere empathy and compassion are only possible in a ruthless state. Since these states are associated with the need to go beyond one’s boundaries, to be with another person, to experience his feelings - which is impossible to do if you have self-pity.

Cruelty and pity

Cruelty is aggression aimed at causing harm to another. It occurs in a situation where there is no external need for this, and causing harm is an end in itself.

In other words, aggression in itself does not mean cruelty and in a large number of situations it can be very appropriate. In a situation of external necessity, aggression is adequate: they attack me, I show aggression and defend myself. Aggression associated with the goal is also adequate: the manager needs to motivate careless subordinates to achieve work tasks, and he shows his aggression - by shouting he encourages them to work.

In both cases, there are real external stimuli and tasks that provoke the appearance of aggression. And as soon as their influence ends or becomes irrelevant, the manifestation of aggression ends.

However, this does not apply to cruelty. Having no external motivation, cruelty is internal and is born from “wounded feelings” that prompt a person to harm others (or himself).

Cruelty is as virtual as pity. A cruel person is not in contact with reality and, by destroying another, he only realizes his own internal processes, which have very little to do with this other. In essence, a cruel person seeks to destroy not another, but a certain image with which he has been endowed.

Cruelty and pity, as you may have already noticed, are related concepts. And I will argue that cruelty without pity does not exist. After all, in order to be wounded, you need to be ready to feel sorry for yourself. And from this self-pity the desire to harm another is born.

Cruelty

There is also another aspect of the definition of cruelty that includes taking pleasure in the suffering of another through actions that are unacceptable in a particular culture. Accordingly, the question of how to combat cruelty can be resolved from the perspective of differences in these approaches, and also have its own characteristics in different cultural communities. After all, what for some may be considered humiliating and unacceptable, for representatives of other cultures can bring pleasure and be revered or express respect.

Common to all manifestations of cruelty is the consciousness of destructive actions. This concept is separate from affective outbursts of aggression or harm caused by drugs or mental illness. Cruelty always means a person’s understanding of the consequences of his actions for another and awareness of their destructive direction.

Cruelty, as a habit, is inherent in people with certain mental disorders. The variety of deviations and their depth can be provoked by a person’s own psychological traumas, a critical moment in life circumstances, or in the process of prolonged ill-treatment of the person himself, as a result of which an adequate perception of the world was disrupted.

The tendency towards cruel behavior is inherent in every person, being the opposite of pity. This means that those who are cruel are capable of generous acts of compassion, and those who have endured and pitied for a long time can be extremely cruel to those whom they previously protected. Until cruelty manifests itself in the active world, a person cannot claim to fully know himself and control his behavior.

The stronger and deeper a person hides his cruelty, the more forcefully it can break out. Thus, mothers who do not recognize this quality in themselves can abuse their children, children can pry at the eyes of live kittens, and surgeons can perform operations without anesthesia.

What is cruelty

Cruelty is often synonymous with aggression, but these concepts cannot replace each other. Aggression is filled with feelings (fear, hunger, self-defense, possessiveness), and cruelty is empty.

It personifies complete indifference to the feelings and needs of others, a lack of understanding that another may be hurt, sad or offended.

Cruelty is inherent only to humans and has nothing to do with the animal world; there is pure aggression, which always reflects the needs of reality, be it getting food or defending one’s territory. No animal is capable of causing suffering to others for its own pleasure.

Many believe that cruelty is aimed at maintaining the uniqueness of one's own ego and exclusivity by exerting strength and power over others. Others believe that cruelty is a way of defense, anticipating possible blows from a stronger opponent or gradually weakening him with constant attacks.

The theory of psychotraumatic events represents cruelty as a certain shell of insensitivity surrounding an overly vulnerable person who, unable to cope with injustice and the resulting pain, has completely turned off his sensitivity to the world.

At the same time, the same vulnerable core of personality remains inside, and if you get to it through all the barriers of cruelty, you may encounter a frightened child in need of support.

Cruelty always reflects dissatisfaction with oneself or the manifestations of one’s life, which brings others to account instead of changes on one’s part. This is a trait that hides deep internal problems, such as excessive vulnerability, psychological trauma and complexes, attempts to demonstrate strength that does not exist.

A cruel person is perceived as strong and almost omnipotent (due to lack of sensitivity and decreased moral principles), but this trait is not positive and strong among all others.

Since there are no internal and external restraining factors (more precisely, sensitivity to them), the manifestations become stronger each time.

So, at first a person can insult others, then slap them on the head, then beat them to the point of fractures and complex bruises, and if everything is not stopped forcibly at this stage, then cruelty takes the form of torture, sadism and murder. Thus, it is a self-accelerating tragedy that often ends in crime.

Abusive people usually have difficulty communicating, have no loved ones, but have a huge baggage of internal pain points. Such people leave themselves with their problems, and their inner world constantly hurts, perhaps this is why sensitivity to other people's pain disappears.

The only period of manifestation of cruelty as a norm is the short period of childhood, when the child learns to control his own emotional sphere and is busy actively exploring the world.

At certain stages, there is a need to inflict pain on others, so that through personal experience an understanding of renunciation of this will come, responses will be received and the consequences will be realized.

Problems begin when this period ends, but cruelty remains.

Cruelty has many faces in its manifestations, but there is not a single person who has not encountered it. Some people are luckier and only hear about it in the news, while others live there all the time. There are as many causes of violent behavior as there are cases, but they can all be divided into several categories.

The most common reason is dissatisfaction with one's life, in which the accumulation of stress and irritation requires an outlet.

Usually, those who are closest and least protected become such a lightning rod (in families these are children, at work these are subordinates, in deserted places these are animals and tree branches). This state of mixed anger and powerlessness needs psychological adjustment, because...

over time leads to psychosomatic disorders (usually the cardiovascular system) and disrupts the social interaction of the individual.

This is followed by misunderstanding or indifference to the feelings of the one who is harmed. Often people cannot understand how they are causing harm through their words and actions, especially if they are not told about it.

In situations where the person does not have serious emotional disturbances, responsibility for the abuse lies with both.

If you are unpleasant, hurt, offended, but you continue to pretend that everything is normal, neither directly nor indirectly making it clear that such treatment hurts you, then the other person will not be able to find out about this telepathically, moreover, he may believe that that this is the kind of treatment you like.

Cruelty, as displaced aggression, increasingly manifests itself with the advent of society and its norms and rules. When a person does not have the opportunity to show dissatisfaction and aggression, defending his point of view in front of an authoritarian boss, then there is a high probability that he will break down in the family.

If upbringing in a family is built on controlling one’s feelings and complete submission, then over time such a person will show cruelty in all other available places.

This behavior may indeed look like cruelty, causeless attacks of rage, but in fact it is displaced aggression and requires finding constructive ways of implementation.

If in childhood a person was deprived of the experience of pain and did not acquire an understanding of the consequences of his actions, then cruel manifestations can occur quite often in his behavior, without malicious intent, but solely from a lack of understanding. This condition is similar to pathological mental disorders, developmental disorders and decreased emotional intelligence.

The most terrible cause of cruelty in terms of its consequences is the desire to take revenge for the pain suffered.

The harmful consequences of this category are due to the fact that a person chooses the most painful and terrible ways to get even with the offender - from emotional to physical, often stretching it out over a long period of time and striking the most sensitive places. This happens when a person’s own pain inside has burned out all remaining feelings and leads him to madness.

The latter causes of cruelty are the most difficult and long-lasting in their rehabilitation, as well as the perception of the world laid down from childhood.
