Life goals: what goals should you set for yourself and how to achieve them?

Every person at some point in time has a goal in life. Sometimes - even several. Usually the question of what is the purpose in life appears at its most important stages. Your future depends on what goal you choose. Defining your goal means taking a step towards your radiant future.

Purpose underlies all the greatest achievements and undertakings in our world, helps us overcome difficulties, and makes us always move forward. But if now you are standing at a crossroads and are looking for your goal, your “spark” that will illuminate your existence with a bright light, then today together with you we will try once and for all to find the very goal that you need.

The conversation will not be about how to achieve financial well-being. Acquiring the things necessary for life and maintaining one’s standard of living are ordinary human needs, since the life of each individual must satisfy basic requirements. It's about something bigger; about the direction of actions that are the basis for everything that happens in life; about the necessary growth and development, about how to solve problems through hard work, despite all the difficulties, while not losing enthusiasm and having fun. We are talking about a clear life goal.

Today we will take 3 consecutive steps, each of which will help you determine your true goal:

  • First step: we will figure out what the real goal is and what it is for;
  • Second step: we will perform several exercises that will help in finding the goal;
  • Third step: we will analyze the main mistakes when choosing a goal, and check our goal for the presence of these errors.

What is the real goal?

A goal is what gives motivation, gets you out of bed with the first rays of the sun and forces you to act, even when there is no strength or desire. It helps you to jump above your capabilities, to work despite fatigue; leaving your comfort zone, getting rid of habits, going beyond your previous thinking. This is what stimulates, creates an unquenchable thirst, and gives additional energy.

Of course, everyone has their own opinion on this matter, which means the goal has its own distinctive characteristics. However, there are things that are common to everyone. Agree, goals in life are constantly changing, since the world around us is changing: pace, economic and environmental situations, morals and principles, legislation, environment, we and our thinking - everything is subject to change. Therefore, it is very important to have a global goal for at least the next 15-20 years. It is this that will allow you to stay in the right direction, find the path and not deviate from it under the influence of life circumstances.

Believe in yourself and in your strengths

Believing in yourself is perhaps more important than achieving the final result. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a figure skater and really loved watching figure skating on TV. After some time, my parents sent me to the figure skating club. There I met guys who had already participated in various competitions and went to the Olympics. I dreamed of becoming just like them. And I was very inspired by their results. My life was filled with bright events. And my goals inspired me to train and achieve results. And although my dream did not come true, I did not become involved in sports professionally. But I carried figure skating into adulthood as a hobby. I still remember the passion and ambition that I had in my youth. They have stayed with me forever and help me in any business I undertake.

After all, having goals and dreams helps us be more positive and optimistic. Especially in those moments when life doesn’t turn out exactly the way we want. Without goals and desires, life becomes darker and we see no way for development. I very often imagine myself achieving my goals. And I mentally transport myself to those places and times when my dreams and plans come true. I call this "mental escape." This exercise gives me a surge of energy and motivation. Basically, it motivates me to keep working and follow my chosen path with self-belief. In addition, such an exercise, combined with small but confident steps towards the goal, may be enough. To change the perception of life, from meaningless to exciting and limitless.

The concept of goal and its significance

There is a law of constant dynamics. It extends to all spheres of human life. And on target. A goal is the result that a person strives to achieve in the end at the end of all his actions. The realization of one goal gives rise to another. And if you have a prestigious job, a huge house in which a loving family is waiting for you, then this is not the limit of your dreams. Do not stop. Keep setting goals for yourself and achieving them no matter what. And the success that you have already achieved will help you in realizing your next plans.

The essence of human life energy

All human processes of life, activity, thinking and action are energy. When people are born, they receive individual internal reserves. But the future fate is different. Internally it depends on temperament, goals and meaning of life, and the external factor is society. Positive changes themselves will not come, no matter how strong the human energy of life is. They must be wanted and directed. Because negative energy has destructive purposes. The proper positive potential can achieve creation.

Absorbers of human life energy

In addition to sources, there are absorbers, among which the following ideas and individual qualities should be noted:

  • see the meaning of life in control;
  • set a goal in life - to be perfect in everything;
  • emotional overload;
  • activities that do not make sense;
  • complexes, resentments, phobias;
  • deferred matters;
  • imagine the meaning of life in constant running.

It makes sense to get rid of this. Liberation will provide the opportunity to receive positive energy resources, set life goals and move forward.

Purpose and its types

Setting life goals is the most important step towards success. It is not necessary to stop at one task and try to implement it. In theory, there are several types of goals in life. Depending on the sphere of society, there are three categories:

Higher goals. They are focused on the person and his environment. Responsible for personal development and helping society.

Basic goals. Aimed at self-realization of the individual and his relationship with other people.

Supporting goals. These include all the material desires of a person, be it a car, a house or a vacation trip.

Based on these three categories, a person realizes himself and improves himself. If at least one target category is missing, he will no longer be happy and successful. That’s why it’s so important to have several goals at the same time in order to develop in all directions.

Formulate your goals correctly. Clearly formulated goals in a person’s life provide 60% of the success of achieving them. It is better to immediately indicate an approximate time frame. Otherwise, the goal of your whole life may remain an unattainable dream.

Never give up

Even in bad times, it is important to have a purpose in life. After all, dreams and goals help us stay afloat, fill us with energy and motivation. If we truly believe in our dreams, we imagine that we will achieve them at some point. It brings us a sense of positivity and optimism that helps us when we face obstacles. And instead of looking at failure as a reason to give up on a goal, if we believe in our dreams, we pick ourselves up and keep working.

“Nothing can stop a person with a strong desire and the right approach from achieving his goals.”

— Thomas Jefferson

How to set a goal correctly

A person faces difficulties in achieving his goals based on inaccurate formulation. What goals in a person’s life can be cited as an example?

  • Have an apartment, a house, a dacha.
  • Lose weight.
  • Relax by the sea.
  • Start a family.
  • Provide parents with a good old age.

All of the above goals, to a greater extent, one way or another, are a person’s dream. He wants this, perhaps with all his heart. But the question arises: when are his goals realized and what does he do for this?

In order to achieve the desired result, you need to set yourself a clear and precise task. It should fit into one phrase. A clear example of the correct setting of goals in a person’s life are the following formulations:

  • Have an apartment (house, dacha) at the age of 30.
  • Lose 10 kg by September.
  • Go to the sea in the first month of summer.
  • Create a happy and strong family.
  • Take your parents into your home and provide them with a good old age.

From the above goals we can conclude that almost all of them have a certain time period. Based on this, a person can plan his time to implement his plans; develop a daily action plan. And then he will see the full picture of what needs to be done and undertaken in order for the goal in life to be achieved.

The key to a meaningful life

How is this hidden revealed? In fact, it is “hidden” in plain sight, literally under our noses. People speak in key words, conveying the meanings by which the psyche lives. Details of appearance, facial expressions, gestures - everything reflects how a person perceives fragments of existence through his mental properties.

By observing this coordinated interaction of particle and wave, you reveal all the cause-and-effect relationships. This applies to both the destinies of individual people and global processes occurring in society. What is happening around ceases to be chaos, “white noise”, the fuss of people from scratch. A single plan is revealed that harmonizes the world into one whole, and the answer is revealed - why I live in it.

All you need is a key - a universal “decoder” that will allow you to recognize not just the sounds made by people, but the meanings behind them. You can get it and learn how to use it at the training “System-vector psychology” by Yuri Burlan.

This forever and radically changes your perception of reality. Allows you to realize your unique purpose and be happy.

Tips and tricks to achieve your goal

To be honest, I personally find it difficult to imagine how a person who does not have a goal in life lives. I am interested in active and multifaceted people who know where they are going and what goals to set at a certain point in their life’s journey, without fear of barriers and obstacles. For myself, I realized that there are 5 important points, the observance of which will help not only to bring the implementation period closer, but also to form a really achievable dream, and not abstract dreams in the spirit of Manilov. The task should be:

  • specific,
  • relevant,
  • measurable
  • achievable
  • limited in time.

Practical tips from experts in the field of psychology will also be useful:

  • Write down all your plans on a convenient medium: paper, vision board, electronic notepad.
  • Identify and outline the important points of the plan, clearly presenting all the details.
  • Don't give yourself a chance to show weakness - take responsibility for all your actions.
  • Develop a detailed scenario for achieving the goal; to make it easier, break the achievement process into several intermediate stages if the task is global or too complex.
  • Set optimal (adequate!) deadlines.
  • Strengthen your strength and be filled with optimism by determining which of the people in your close circle will have a better life if you complete the tasks you have set for yourself.
  • Formulate thoughts and phrases in an affirmative form in the present tense with full confidence that success is guaranteed to you.

The true goals that Transurfing talks about

The true goals in Transurfing are the desires of our Soul, which move us forward and provide guidance in life.

And not only landmarks, but also the desire to wake up in the morning, energy and strength.
A person who has a goal accomplishes much more and gets tired less, he is not susceptible to depression and crises, he takes an active position in life and conveys confidence, positivity, harmony, and drive.
In any, even the most difficult situation, he relies on his goal, which inspires him.

Imagine that you find yourself in a completely dark corridor. This is precisely the position of a person who has no goal. Yes, you can move forward, but you have to feel it. Yes, you can find pleasure in this process, you can move forward quite effectively - but you will remain in the dark.

Now imagine that there is light at the end of the corridor. And not just light - but a fabulous portal, shining with all the colors of the rainbow. This is your goal. You take a step forward and a light bulb lights up above your head, take another step and it becomes even brighter. Your path to your goal begins to be illuminated by “beacons” leading you to the desired door, and now the once dark corridor has become bright, friendly and hospitable for you.

How to find your purpose is described in detail in the article: “How to find your true purpose? Step-by-step instructions + the best Transurfing techniques.” Recommendations, videos and practices await you!

How to distinguish your goal from someone else's

There is a simple technique. Take a notebook and write what they want from you: parents, friends, relatives, wife, media. Divide this into 5 groups. Let there be at least 20 positions under each item.

Now write what you would like to do, but what was not on the first list.

You can continue to work with this list. Ideally write 100 – 200 wishes. The entire procedure may take a day, so try to set aside this time specifically. This is your life and now you determine it.

Matrix

Many famous people, including everyone’s favorite Elon Musk, fully admit that we live in some kind of virtual reality.
Just like the one described in the movie “The Matrix,” but we don’t have any bodies in the real world. We are just virtual programs. And if this is so, then many things fall into place. From fine tuning of physical laws to the inaccessibility of stars. In fact, they simply don't exist. And astronomers are right when, measuring the distances to the nearest worlds, they gloomily mutter to themselves that we will never visit there.

There is no one in this Universe except us. Because it was created just for us. Perhaps we're just some superintelligent high school kid's abandoned lab running on some abandoned server. Until the cleaning lady comes and turns off all the electrical panels...

Or maybe another civilization is developing on a planet near a neighboring star... This is the work of another fifth grader. And interstellar distances are so vast because intelligent beings should not intersect with each other. For the purity of the experiment...

Tell the whole Universe!

Why is a life goal necessary for a person?

A life purpose is necessary for a person to live with meaning. A goal in life allows you to move forward, regardless of difficulties and problems.

Without a goal it is impossible to achieve anything. It allows you to realize all your desires and dreams. A person who knows what he wants will achieve success.

“The problem with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score a goal.” says Bill Copeland.

“You need a plan to build a house. To build your life, it is even more important to have a plan or goal." – Zig Ziglar.

Do you set goals for yourself?

What are your goals for the next year?

How about 3 years?

5 years?

10 years?

What are your life aspirations?

Setting a goal is the first step to successfully achieving a goal. This is your first step to success. This is when you move from a passive state to being involved in life.

Here are some reasons why setting goals is so important.

Take control of your life

Many people today sleepwalk through life. Even if they work hard, they don't feel like they are getting what they want.

This happens because they have no direction in which they want to go, what they want to achieve.

Students are graduating and they're not sure what to do with their lives.

Adults work for years and are shocked when they reach their 30s/40s and they don't know what to do next.

As Bill Copeland says, when you don't set goals, you can spend your whole life running up and down and achieving nothing. In reality, you are simply fulfilling other people's goals, not your own. It could be the fast food industry telling you to eat fast food because you “love it.” It could be the consumer products industry telling you that you need that 79% hair growth formula shampoo because it will make your life better. These could be fashion labels that force you to buy clothes because they supposedly make you look cooler in them.

When you stop setting goals and thinking about what you want, you come out of autopilot and begin to live the life of your Conscious Creation.

Instead of letting others tell you what to do, you proactively take responsibility and think about what you want for yourself.

Get maximum results

Top performers, world-class athletes and successful people all set specific goals for themselves.

Michael Phelps (best swimmer and most decorated Olympian of all time), Kobe Bryant (NBA star), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook co-founder), Richard Branson (business tycoon) and Elon Musk (CEO of SpaceX and Telsa Motors) all bet set certain goals for themselves.

This is because when you set goals, you have a vision to work towards.

You push yourself to get the best results rather than resting on your laurels and waiting for something to happen.

Know that what gets measured gets improved. If you don't set specific goals and milestones, how will things improve? There is literally nothing to work on, and even if you work hard, your hard work may not translate into anything.

As the popular saying goes: “Fly to the moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars."

When you set goals, you shoot for the moon.

Your goals motivate you to take more action.

When you set goals, you think about the future, after which you can create your action plan.

Even if things don't go according to plan, that's okay because you can reconsider, adjust your plans, and then direct your life towards your vision.

Creates laser focus

Goals give you focus. While your life purpose gives you general direction, your goals give you laser focus on where exactly to spend your time and energy.

Let's say you set a goal to create a confectionery business.

Even if you have no idea how to do it, the act of setting a goal gives you focus.

When you are brainstorming for ideas, you realize that you can start by researching your local confectionery market and confectionery brands.

Then take baking classes to master the skills.

At the same time, try out recipes and let your friends try your creations before you sell them.

Think of your energy as the input and your results as the output.

When you have a goal, you create a focus where your energy can be directed to achieve maximum reward. For example, a goal to reach 5,000 visitors/day on your blog helps you prioritize and identify the most important tasks to achieve that goal, while eliminating low-value tasks that don't contribute to that vision.

Creates accountability

Having goals makes you accountable. Instead of just talking, you now have a responsibility to act.

Diabetologist: “To stabilize your blood sugar levels, start taking it immediately...”

This responsibility is a responsibility to yourself, and not to anyone else.

Nobody knows what goals you set.

When I started my Personal Excellence blog many years ago, I set goals such as completing a certain number of articles per week, achieving a certain target traffic per week, and getting a certain number of clients per month.

It made me accountable to these goals.

Each week as I worked on my plan, I kept track of my work.

If I found myself unable to cope, I would take the necessary steps to solve the problem.

I would reduce my tasks and define actions to achieve my goals.

This helped me grow my blog very quickly, and within a year I was able to turn my passion into a full-time career.

Motivate you

When you set goals, you connect yourself with your deepest desires. They help motivate you and give you something to strive for. This is especially important if you're not currently in the best place in life—your goals help remind you of what you love, redirect your attention away from negative obstacles, and reconnect with your deepest desires.

To quote Henry Ford: “Obstacles are those terrible things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”

When you feel negative and depressed, it's often because you feel like you don't have anything worth looking forward to.

Your goals are the rainbow to strive for to push you out of the storm.

If I ever lose motivation, I will meditate and focus on some of the most important goals in my life, such as the people I want to reach out to and help.

I would visualize this scenario with complete clarity, as if it were happening now.

It immediately connects me to my inner self as I remember my “why” (my deepest motivation), after which I will feel energized and get to work immediately.

Be the best

Goals help you reach your highest potential. Lack of goals prevents you from growing. This robs you of your infinite potential.

Diabetics can eat sweets! The main enemy of diabetes has been discovered!

By setting goals, you set goals to achieve.

These goals force you to take risks.

They force you to stretch beyond your normal self and reach new heights.

For example, setting a time limit for your run lets you know if you should run faster.

Setting a weight loss goal helps you know if your actions have been effective in losing weight.

Setting a career goal ensures that you don't settle for less.

Live your life

Last but not least, goals ensure that you get the best out of life.

Whether you like it or not, time will pass in your life. In a year you will be older. In 5 years you will be 5 years older. Goals with specific measures and deadlines ensure that you maximize your experience. If you have already discovered your life purpose, then your goals will help you get the best out of it.

Imagine this: the world is your oyster.

There are millions, billions of things you can do, experiences you can have, and people you can encounter.

There are endless possibilities of what you can do.

What if you can do whatever you want?

What do you want to achieve?

What do you want to see, do and experience in your life?

Set your goals, make them a reality, and watch yourself create your best life.

Start setting goals

Ask yourself: What are my goals for the next year, 3 years, 5 years or even 10 years?

If you just take some time to set your goals now, I can guarantee you that you will definitely experience more growth as a person. By taking just a few minutes to formulate some aspirations that have been on your mind, you will experience more progress in your life a year from now than if you had not done so.

Hierarchy of goals

Goals can be global or local. There is a common big goal for which you started the business. All other tasks must be subordinated to its achievement. Let's take a closer look at what goals are:

  1. The main objective. This is what everything was created for. Let's not lie: you opened a business in order to earn money, increase your status and improve the well-being of your family. This is the global goal. But we remember that goals must be measurable, so this will not work. Come up with something more specific and tangible. For example, build a two-story house on the Black Sea coast, buy a premium car and send your children to study at Harvard. And all this - in 5 years.
  2. Long term goals. These are the things that determine your business development strategy. They are set for a long time in advance: a year, three or even more. For example, this year to enter the TOP 10 stores in terms of sales of household appliances. Or earn so many millions of rubles in six months. This is where you can give free rein to your ambitions and set the most daring goals.
  3. Short term goals. This may include a monthly sales plan, the implementation of small-scale and significant projects.
  4. Goals for the day. These are ordinary routine tasks that you do yourself and delegate to your subordinates. However, their importance should not be underestimated. It is from solving daily issues and tasks that a big whole ultimately emerges. Everyone should understand this. Even a simple call to a client ultimately works for the common good. This is not just a routine conversation with the buyer, but another step that brings the company closer to a great goal. Communicate this message to all employees and make it part of the overall business philosophy. There are no unimportant tasks.
  5. Goals are divided into general and specific. What you entrust to an entire department is a common goal. The entire team is working to achieve it. Specific tasks are assigned to specific employees. You need to do this and that. A common task unites the team. Mutual assistance and mutual assistance appear. Every employee knows that his interests depend not only on himself, but also on that guy. And vice versa: his personal effectiveness affects the performance of the entire department.

A goal-oriented person is effective

Train yourself to clearly set and achieve goals - from small to large. This way you will be as productive as possible. Once you understand what you really want, a plan of action will gradually be created in your mind. Try to divide complex tasks into several small parts to make it easier to move towards the finish line. It is important to set not only long-term, but also short-term goals. Think about what you can do immediately to be successful. When you start moving according to step-by-step instructions, life's difficulties will be invisible. The habit of going towards a goal increases a person’s effectiveness in various areas of life.

The most common mistakes

Too serious attitude

Most often, a person who sets out to find his purpose takes this very seriously. With great importance and rigor, he filters and discards those activities that do not suit him and, as it seems to him, do not correspond to his life goal. It is important to understand that with this approach a person will never stop at anything. You must be able to enjoy the process itself, but if you are completely serious, there will be continuous tension.

Trying to copy someone

Very often people present others as idols. Since they like the personality itself, it means they will like doing what their idol does. Such copying of personality does not lead to anything good. You can convince yourself to do something that doesn't really bring you any pleasure.

A man's life goals

Business is the main goal to which a man devotes his time. Idle, he is incompetent. Ideally, this is some kind of enterprise with a humanistic idea, aimed at helping and developing other people.

It is vital for masculine nature to explore the world, seize territories (markets), compete with others, promote new goods and services. By realizing his undertaking, a man realizes himself in this world. Business is the second face of a real man.

A man is a researcher by nature.

One of the most important goals in a man’s life is his business.

List of examples of goals for a man and a guy for 5–10 years:

Explore business management methods from your own experience.

Set 50 intermediate or medium-term goals and achieve them.

Develop the company to a turnover of $1 million

Create a service that makes life easier for other men.

What goals should a woman have in life?

Photo: pixabay.com

Setting life priorities largely depends on the age and gender of a person. Women, as a rule, set themselves the following long-term goals:

  • find a worthy man, start a family with him and have children;
  • realize yourself in the professional field and receive a decent salary (sometimes this point is even more important than the previous one);
  • create your own image - someone wants to be a real businesswoman, someone is more suited to the role of a homemaker, and someone likes to be free and independent;
  • have a well-groomed appearance - every woman wants to look attractive, maintain youth and a good figure for many years;
  • correspond to social status - this means material well-being, having your own home, car, decent education for children;
  • realize their creative potential - for many women it is important to do what they love, for example, embroidery, photography, dancing.

Many women draw inspiration from specialized magazines and books on psychology, various courses, television shows and the like.

Examples

The simplest one is music. Almost every second person in his life dreamed of becoming an artist as a child. But how often do we hear that you can’t make money from music and that you should go to law school. But you can master some related profession. For example, improve your skills in playing an instrument and play with different bands, that is, become a session musician. This option, of course, is not the simplest, but it is quite realistic.

You can also try to get a job and improve your skills as an assistant sound engineer. And subsequently develop from assistants into a full-fledged sound engineer. But the simplest and most modern option is sound design. This profession combines all the previously described options. Learning this is quite simple and does not take much time. This profession is already in great demand abroad, and in the future it will become very popular here too. Your task is to formulate a competent goal. And as we see, this can be done even if you are interested in music.
